Get started with configuration in Dynamics 365

Microsoft Business Applications are a set of intelligent solutions that provide a comprehensive view of an organization’s business. These solutions include Dynamics 365 products that are connected by data and intelligence and supported by Power Platform.

One of the key features of a Dynamics 365 model-driven app is its ability to be extended and customized without code. In this learning path, we will explore Microsoft Power Platform's configuration abilities and how to leverage them for a model-driven app.

The need to configure products to meet special requirements is becoming the rule rather than the exception, in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer relationships.

*Consultants need to configure the application to meet the unique business requirements of their customer organization.

*Developers need to know the constraints of the out-of-the-box configuration capabilities before deciding to extend the product using code.

*Salespeople need to configure the product per their customers’ requirements during pre-sales to demonstrate the Business Applications value.

*Administrators need to be familiar with admin centers, security, and settings to maintain the system for their user base.

Model-driven apps

These Dynamics 365 apps are derived from Customer Relationship Management (CRM). These Dynamics apps are model-driven apps built on the Microsoft Dataverse platform.

•  Dynamics 365 Sales enables you to build strong relationships with your customers, take actions

based on insights, and close sales faster.

•  Dynamics 365 Customer Service allows you to earn customers for life. Build great customer

relationships by focusing on optimum customer satisfaction with the Customer Service app.

•  Dynamics 365 Field Service helps you deliver onsite service to customer locations.

•  Dynamics 365 Marketing is a marketing-automation application that helps turn prospects

  into business relationships.

Work with the Power Platform and Dynamics 365 admin centers

The Power Platform Admin center provides a unified portal for administrators to manage environments and settings for Power Apps, Power Automate, and the model-driven apps in Dynamics 365.

You can view and manage the settings for your environments by signing in to the Power Platform Admin center, going to the Environments page, selecting an environment, and then selecting Settings.

Settings for the selected environment can be managed here.

Work with tenants, environments and databases

When you start making changes to the Power Platform and Dynamics 365 model-driven apps, you’ll work within an environment. The first step to creating and configuring an environment is to log into the Power Platform Admin center, where you will do most of your configuration work.

a tenant is the account you create in the Microsoft Online Services environment when you sign up for a subscription. A tenant contains uniquely identified domains, users, security groups, and subscriptions and can contain multiple instances.

A default environment is automatically created for you when you sign up for Power Apps, Dynamics 365,or if you have a Microsoft 365 account. At least one environment will always be designated as the default when you start to work with Dataverse. After creating an environment, you can create a new instance of a Dataverse database, allowing you to store your organizational data in this new environment.

There are a few different types of environments. Depending on your business requirements.

1) Production

2) Default

3) Sandbox

4) Trial

5) Developer
